Tips to Follow the Night Before a Party

The April 2009 issue of Teen Vogue has this mini article for the gals out there stressing the night before the big bash or the small shindig. Or if you just want to have a fresher, happier day, follow these tips the night before and you could wake up feeling way better (Click on the magazine clipping to see it bigger and to see all of it!).

Art is the Language of the Soul

There are many great artists out there. Some love to express a feeling, an event, an observation, or themselves. Which ever way they find needs and ways to express themselves, artists dare to visually proclaim things that we sometimes dare not say out loud. Occasionally I will post pictures of artists works as I like them and find them. Today I wish to talk about Lawrence Alma-Tadema and my current favorite piece of his Spring.
Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912) was a European painter during the Romanticism period of art, and you tell by his style. He has painted many pieces, and you call see them all here.
The reason I'm even talking about him is beceause I went the the Getty Museum a month ago and I found one of his most gorgeuous pieces ever! I went again last Friday because I was to choose a piece for my Art 300 class (art for children), and write about it in a week. I went with a couple of friends, and right away I went to see if the piece that I fell in love with was still there, AND IT WAS!!!
Spring (1894) Oil on Canvas, is a beautiful painting that depicts the festival of Cerealia in a Roman street. One of Tadema's most famous and popular works, it took him four years to complete. The models for many of the participants and spectators were Tadema's friends and members of his family. It's really hard for you to see all of the details in the one clip that I provided, but a lot is happening. There are people on the sorrouding buildings throwing flowers, and there are people on the streets, throwing more flowers all around. If you ever get a chance to see it for your self, it will look as thoug the flowers were glued on the painting. His painting style is just magnificent. He placed a lot of attention to detail that its just too realistic. When I look at it, the first thing that draws me in are the flowered rifes on the heads of the women in the street. I really admire him for his work. There are many more beautiful paintings of his, but this one just beats them all. The actually painting is 70.25 X 31.5 inches. It's really BIG!!! It's magnificantly crafted and it was made during the hight of Alma-Tadema's carrer.
I loved it sooo much that I bought a 11X17 print and 2 post cards of the same print while I was at the Getty (one of the post cards is going to be used for my report/critique). The 11X17 is taped next to my closet door, under my Tinker Bell calender. I hope to get a frame for it in the future.

People need a little bit of art in their lives. Take the time to go to a museum, a park with outsider art, or create a little bit art of your own. You never know, you might blossom a talent you didn't know you had. So I ask that you make a collage, draw, paint, smear, break, or mold something. It could be life changing, or it can help releive stress. It has for me in this looooong semester.

Things I Love Thursday!

Every Thursday I'm going to have "Things I Love Thursday!" I pretty much got the idea from this great woman known as Gala Darling. She is an excellent "everything" adviser. Great doll. So I always wanted to try my own "Things I Love Thursday," and to christen my first edition of this I want to think about the Earth.

As you may already know, April the 22nd is Earth Day. If you love the Earth, then you are going to need to watch the new documentary by Disney Nature productions respectively called Earth. If you purchase tickets for opening weekend, Disney will plant a tree in your honor.

So as a thing to love, lets think about earth friendly items.

There are too many plastic bags that end up in land fills. The best way to take all your shopping goodies home is by buying a reusable tote. My favorite tote is at Dogeared.

This tote says it all. Be good to your mother, and your mother will be good to you. The same website has other great totes to help take care of the Earth!

From the website:
Give Mother Earth some green peace of mind. This colorful new tote is perfect for throwing over the shoulder and going about your day with anything and everything - from books to beach gear to laundry. Going green has never been this easy with the whole world on your shoulders. Mom would be so proud!

Take some time to really think about things that you can get rid of than can help reduce the amount of waist that is in land fills. You know ever know what you could do without.

In the same website, they have this cute and excellent little necklace that looks cute and is good for the planet since the net profits from sale go to organizations that help our world heal.

This little necklace can be purchased in gold dipped or in sterling silver. I usually prefer all things gold, and this necklace is no exception. Why not purchase something that is good for the planet and something that looks good on you!

Also this Earth Day at the Disney Store, if you take 3 plastic bottles to the store, you get a free reusable drinking bottle for free, while supplies last. I might not be able to make it to that because of school, but they are also selling a lot eco-friendly products. They are selling more totes, water bottles, and aprons and t-shirts made from cotton and plastic bottles.

And speaking of shirts, let talk about Earth Day shirts. There are a lot out there but here are 2 of my favorite ones.

Both of these shirts are very cute to show your spirit for Mother Earth. Plus, right now, if you purchase 2 shirts on the dELiAs website you save $10. Very nice!

Now let's talk shoes!!! We all love shoes, or at least I do. Vans has these great shoes that are made with Dri-Lex with bamboo insole lining. I looked for them in the Vans website, but they didn't have them in my size, but I found them in many sizes on shoes.com and in the 3 colors that they provide. Here are my favorite ones! These are too cute to pass out on and they go with practically everything!
Lastly, every girl needs to read up on what they can do to make sure that they live a green life. Make sure to add this book to your library so that you can be armed when it comes to defending why things need to change for a better tomorrow. You can find it in Barnes and Noble or Borders.

Well this is it for today. I will probably add another post tomorrow depending on how things go. I'll only be able to post on non-school nights until the semester ends, which is in 4 weeks, not counting finals week. Wish me luck that I finish with a bang!

And remember Think Green!!!

The First of Many...

Well dolls, this is it!

I always wanted to start a consistent blog, and I have tried, many times in fact, all over the place.

I've tried one in xanga when I was in the 10th grade. It didn't last long...

I've tried one LiveJournal, but I mostly got it so that I can link together all of the LiveJournals that make icons based on movies I like. I still have that one saved, and I've posted a few things in the blog, but nothing to completely satisfy me.

I tried a second time on xanga to make an all Disneyland blog (which I love, and by that I mean that I looooove Disneyland and everything Disney), but I wasn't able to stay on top of it.

So I thought I would find way to fit in together everything and anything that I love and like into one blog. Oh, I also tried weebly before getting this blogger blog, but it got too complicated for my liking. So here, I am, blogging. I hope this lasts longer than any of my other projects. Now that I think about it, there are a lot of things that I've started but never finished. Wow, that says way too much about me with just that sentence... man I need help...

Oh, I also have another blogger account, but I was made to create it for an assignment that involved posting on a book we read during spring break in the 11th grade. Those were the days...

Now before I get all nostalgic on you, let me talk a little about my self. Like I stated before, I love everything Disney. If it has the Disney castle in it or on it, I don't want to hear anything negative about it, though we are all entitled to our opinions. I love the great and grand French Queen, Marie Antoinette, as you can tell by my page layout. I gained a great interest in her in 2006, when Sofia Coppola directed the movie Marie Antoinette, with Kirsten Dunst playing the Queen herself. I think she did an excellent job, and I LOVED the movie so much that I dressed up as Marie Antoinette in Halloween 2007 and 2008 and I might return as the Queen for 2009 (I'll post pictures later). I'm trying to get through the book that inspired the movie, Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser, but with school and all, it has been bit hard to read for fun, let alone read my assigned literature. That brings me to the next thing about me, I'm currently a sophomore, or s'more as I called all the sophomores when I was in high school. I'm attending Cal State Long Beach and I'm majoring in Liberal Studies, which is a fun way of saying that I want to be an Elementary teacher, preferably, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, so that they can be old enough for me to tell them about Harry Potter. Which transitions me into another thing: I love reading for fun. I love the Harry Potter series, the Twilight series, the Princess Diaries series, the Great and Terrible Beauty Series, and many more series and books. I wish I could live in a bookstore, well, that's the second place I would love to live if I could live any other place but home. My first is... yeah you guessed it... DISNEYLAND!!!

Uh, I think I should stop while I'm ahead. I will post more about my self as I think about it more. This one post took a while to think about. I will post as often I find it appropriate and as I find time. Thanks for reading, until next time...
